A major part of my beading life now is my participation in the Bead Journal Project. For 2010 I have committed to my self to make an improvisational bead embroidery piece every month. I chose to make them postcard size (4" x 6"). My decision was inspired by Robin Atkins who organized this project several years ago. I met her in Denver in April 2009, and hearing her lecture about the Bead Journal Project had a huge impact on me. Since then I had the privilege of taking a 2-day class from her.
Robin's philosophy is to think about something going on in your life and then set the idea aside. Choose cloth, beads, and other objects and embroider a piece that you like. Start with a bead and put it someplace on the cloth. From there one thing leads to another. The end results can be very different than I imagined when I started. This form of making art has been very freeing, satisfying, and uplifting.
