Accent on Butterflies
Accent on Leaves

The class will begin with exercises to help you design a necklace that will be uniquely yours. Choose a natural subject: leaves, flowers, cabochons, fish, birds, butterflies or any other that suits your fancy. Elements of design will be explored and illustrated, as you use traced patterns of your chosen elements placed on a diagram of the frame. The frame for the necklace is constructed by covering cord and wire with beads using peyote stitch. The front portion will hold its shape to support your chosen elements, and the neck portion will be bent to fit your neck. The clasp can be a beaded element with a loop, or a hidden hook. The result is light in weight and comfortable. Techniques used include two-drop tubular peyote, netting, bead embroidery and several approaches for cabochon bezels. Students should have previous experience with peyote stitch. Nature surrounds us with designs of universal appeal and has always inspired human creativity. Follow your own vision to create a necklace--- classically simple or beautifully lush. Two-Day Class
